The first part of a Mazda trim name tells you about the engine. The number is the displacement in liters, so “2.5” means a 2.5-liter engine, while “3.3” means a 3.3-liter engine. The letter or word after it tells you its tuning: “S” denotes the standard, naturally aspirated version, while “Turbo” means a turbocharged version of that displacement, built for more horsepower and torque. Occasionally, you will see an extra S after Turbo, as in “Turbo S”, which signals a higher-output tune of the same engine for even more power at the top of the Mazda model lineup.
